The HR Leader
Last week at the Conference Board’s Strategic E-HR Conference, Tod Loofbourrow, Chairman of Authoria, shared his thoughts on what key characteristic will make up a top performing HR leader in 2010.
The three characteristics he focused on were:
A Solid Analytical Mindset: They will leverage data to make decisions and measure their value to the organization.
Overall Business Knowledge: They will have a total understanding of their business – from top to bottom.
Accountability: Top performing HR leaders will be accountable for their actions.
I would add two other characteristics:
Excellent Communications Skills: A good HR executive, in any era, must be an excellent communicator. A client of mine uses the mantra: “clear, concise and compelling” in everything that is communicated from HR — from inter-office emails to employee communications.
Confidence: A good leader also needs to remain calm and composed in the face of uncertainty. Other people will look to him/her for assurance during times of difficulty. He/she needs to be decisive and follow through on his/her decisions.
What are your thoughts? What have we missed?
