Shared Vocabulary for HR Transformation
I’ve been meaning to comment on Naomi Bloom’s November essay in HRO Today but the holidays and year-end issues held me up. Bloom presents a very interesting argument for developing a shared vocabulary for HRM domain models. As usual, her logic is spot on! Bloom’s essay explores a very important aspect to the HR Journey: how do we work together with our sourcing partners to make our HR operation and service delivery more effective if we are not all speaking the same language?
Imagine sitting at a conference table surrounded by people speaking a foreign language you don’t understand and suddenly finding out you are responsible for leading this group in a major initiative? Sounds scary and yet it happens all the time when HR leaders sit down with their suppliers to hammer out service level agreements or scope of work descriptions.
Take Bloom’s advice, before you roll up your sleeves to start any serious negotiations, make sure you and your partners are all speaking the same language!
